Lee's Barber Shop

Mr. Lee provides an affordable haircut that goes far beyond the others I’ve had around the town, and the country at large. Where some barbers excel in verbosity, he excels in cutting hair. His shop is a slept-on treasure in downtown Oakland.

The price was right but the haircut was terrible. My husband had a few acceptable (not amazing) hair cuts here. Today he came back with the worst cut I’ve ever seen. Immediately made a booking at Dax Lees to get it fixed and will never return.

I came in with months of overgrowth. Mr. Lee simply asked me if I wanted "short" or "medium". I picked medium, and he went to work. It was a relatively short no frills cut and I'm very happy with the result. I'm usually not happy with haircuts at all. The fact that I gave essentially no direction was an advantage, because it allowed Mr. Lee to do what he thought was best. The cut worked well with my receding hairline, the result looks natural and clean. I'm very pleased with the short amount of time for the cut, just about 15 minutes. The price is hard to beat. Big fan of the head vacuum. I took a shower when I got home and there was definitely less loose hair debris. Probably not the place to go if you desire a particular or non-standard haircut that requires a lot of communication. But

cathy and her husband are super rude. she’s rushed you out the chair and she has horrible customer service. the barbershop that she is in is dirty and old. there is no good parking and a lot of homeless encampments and homeless people walking around. you have to wait outside even when it’s super cold. flies everywhere as soon as you walk in i could not believe it. don’t risk coming here.

I’m considering shaving my head after this experience. I received a very asymmetrical haircut with an extremely high fade that is so close to my head that I don’t think it can be salvaged. Mr. Lee just starting cutting without even asking what I wanted. I should have read the reviews more closely. Very sweet old man, but the outcome is not acceptable!
