Updated 6/5/2025: Sad news. My barber, Michael (The elderly barber. Not sure what his Spanish name is.) passed away a few weeks ago at work. Rest in peace Michael. The weird thing is, I just saw him at the end of April. He cut my hair before I went on my Japan trip. He seemed fine. Previously, he was gone for a while because he went back to El Salvador for vacation. Today, the shop was closed at 11am. I had to ask around to see what happened. Well, thank you Michael for all the great haircuts. I will miss the big smile he greets me with when I walk in. He wasn't much of a talker. Original review: Abe is a basic barber shop. $20 for a haircut. There was no wait at 2pm on a Tuesday. The other haircut places on Mission St. were closed. The older gentlemen with the beanie cut my hair. He was
The barber was late for 15 mins and did not apologize. There is a sign on the wall saying "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone", take it seriously. Through my 35 years' life, this was the first time that a barber refuse to service because "my head is always moving". I don't have hyperactivity disorder or seizure, I believe my head movement was completely within the normal range. The barber did not finish my haircut and let me go without charge, but I still have to find another barber to trim the back of my head. Very bad experience.
Abe, the owner, is very nice and skilled! He has been a barber for 36 years. I had bad experience with the older barber. So ask Abe or other barbers, but not the oldest one who looks like in his 60s. —2018 (It's my first time to come here. The old male barber was nice until he kept $8 for his tip before I agreed to give it to him. Come on! You're not supposed to keep the tip before the customer give it to you! But I didn't embarrass him in front of a crowd. The haircut was mediocre. —2017)
Older guy had me faced away from the mirror the entire haircut, which I thought was very strange. When he finally turned me around I realized he had gone too low with the fade, so I asked him to go higher and straighten out the back (had to ask him for a mirror to check the back, which he didn’t seem happy about). When he was done he tried to charge me double because he “cut my hair twice”. Feels like he had me turned away so he could pull this trick. Try and get the polite, younger guy.
Walked in and got a pretty good mid tapered fade with some off the top. The cut cost $10, then I got a beard trim and they lined me all up for another $10. Did such a good job I gave the man $30. I'll definitely be going back.
