I live near this place and have gone for years, but recently the price changed. It used to be that a guy could come here and pay 20-25$ for a good haircut. Now that same cut is 40$. It may be because they changed the name from U street barber to U street salon. They aren't doing anything different, but with the name change they feel like they can charge more. I like their work, but a 20 minute trim shouldn't charge 40 bucks. I'll find somewhere else from now on, and if they bring their prices back down to something reasonable I'll change my review.
The best barber in the city! I take both of my boys (8 and 3) here regularly and they’re awesome with kids! My youngest had his first haircut here and he LOVES the car chair and Gina knows how to work while he’s wiggling! Khoi takes take of my oldest and always does an incredible job! 10/10 would recommend!
Kevin is hands down one of the best barbers out there. He gave me an amazing beard trim and haircut—clean, sharp, and exactly what I wanted. He pays attention to detail, takes his time, and you can tell he really knows his craft.
The woman who cuts hair here is better than the guy. The gentleman cannot fade and cuts hair unevenly. I would recommend the woman, but after two tries with the gentleman, I can not recommend his services. I don't know what he does when he cuts the hairline around the back of the head and ears, the line for the lineup is a different length than the rest of the hair, leaving this strange gradient of hair. It's bizarre. Feels like layering is visible, with a choppy and noticeable transition between layers. He'll scissor cut part of the top of your head but not others, again leading to a very uneven cut.
I normally have a good experience with Gina! I had the newer woman today, though, and left quite disappointed. She heavily used thinning scissors on my already thin hair, took a trimmer to my widow’s peak (which I’ve never had someone do before), and fully missed a portion of my head; I wound up cutting more hair off once home to try to even it out, and I guess will have to wait for the buzzed portion of my hairline to come back.
