South Hegman Lake Canoe Access BWCA #77

There's about a 1/4 mile portage (path from parking to lake). We took our kayaks, which made it tougher, but totally worth it. Get to the North side of the South lake, jump across a very short portage, and then head up to the North side of the North lake. There, you'll find some pictographs. (I'm still not convinced they're ancient. They look too sharp 😂)

Portage to lake is well-maintained (for a BWCA portage), and provides access to view 500+ year old pictographs on North Hegman Lake. The reflections of the water onto the cliff give the place a magical feel, and make it easy to understand why the indigenous people felt this was a sacred place. The trail is steep in places, and ends in a staircase down to South Hegman Lake. Hiking poles or a stick are recommended for anyone with weak knees.

Amazing experience at this lake. Great memorys that will always be remembered and will most definitely visit again.
