Me and my friend go in there frequently because we change our hair all the time, the lady with the long colorful hair is super nice and sweet and helpful! However, I think it’s the manager she’s an older lady and she’s extremely judgmental and always stalks us walking around just trying to grab dye, gloves and color removing wipes. We turn, she’s there watching over our shoulders. I understand customer service but this is making the experience awkward and uncomfortable and like we were thieves.

It’s deeply disappointing to walk into a beauty supply store—especially one that caters to a diverse clientele—nearly 10 months pregnant and be completely ignored, while watching the sole staff member greet every other white customer around me. Hair care is a universal and culturally significant experience, especially for women of color, and it’s critical that staff treat all customers with dignity and respect. This experience made me question how people who clearly show bias—whether conscious or not—are hired for roles where they’re expected to serve communities of all backgrounds. Sally Beauty must do better when it comes to hiring and training employees who can interact inclusively with the people they serve.

Not the best experience in this store. I went in looking for items and I understand wanting to give customer service but it did not feel that way. An older lady that was an employee basically followed me around the store as I was looking for items and when I stood in one area she stood right next to me and my partner the whole time until I left that area and went along with me to the next area. Then when I was ready to check out she wasn’t even at the register then she finally came. Made me feel very horrible and felt like some criminal that needed to be watch in a tiny store not a good experience. Please don’t do this to paying customers.

I read the older reviews and was a bit nervous to go to this location but with the bridge closed I needed to give it a shot. It was nothing like the negative reviews, apparently there is new management. I was promptly greeted, asked what my hair goals were, was helped in best products and tools needed. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I went back the next week for products to do a root melt and it was the exact same experience. (My hair looks amazing and I've saved tons of $$!) This is a great location and I'll be a permanent customer!

I have visited both this location as well as the Sally's in Shallotte, and I have to say, that I now try to visit this Leland location in particular due to the above-and-beyond customer service. All the staff members I have met at this Sally's are extremely pleasant and helpful, and I can confidently say I have enjoyed every trip made here. Today, Melanie, helped me find exactly what I needed, and she went out of her way to make my shopping experience a good one! If anyone in management is reading these reviews, please, note that Melanie is doing wonderfully. Definitely a happy, return customer.
