River & Rails Barbershop

Tried these guys when my regular barber was closed for the holiday. Despite being them being booked up online they were able to get me and my son in at the end of the day after calling directly. The online booking system is the way to go since you'll know exactly when you'll get your cut, unlike walk-in only places. The location was convenient to the downtown area with plenty of both on-street parking and an accessible parking lot. The barbershop itself was spacious despite its outside matchbox footprint. The interior was both clean and comfortable. The furnishings include large comfortable chairs for those waiting, television, and even a Keurig coffee machine. The barber was talented and professional. The haircut and beard trim provided were of a good quality and at a good price point.

Google says walk-in welcome, tried calling 4 times just in case to confirm. No response. I live in Columbus and work in Portsmouth, I thought let me support a local business. Drove a day early, show up and the door sign says “appointment only.” Well, it’s fine, but maybe you should let people searching you on Google find out before they drive to you. So, go to that website and book ahead, looks like they are booked up a few days ahead.

My husband had to find a new barber as his original is over 2 hours away. He tried another local shop and his beard was unfortunately butchered by the barber. He has since gone to River & Rails and really liked it! The guys at the shop are friendly, create a relaxed environment and do a great job with his hair and beard. Matt Horsley is his barber and he 10/10 recommends him. I’ve been in to purchase a gift card and was super surprised by the pricing for a cut-prices are awesome.

The shop is very clean and the barbers are very friendly and know their profession. The waiting area is one of the best in the area. Parking is a little tricky but the shop location is in town.

We were in town for a wedding, and my husband and I took a chance to see if they could take a walk in and they could! Chat was awesome and had awesome attention to detail. My husband's beard looked awesome, this place does it right....old school, great place, super reasonably priced, highly recommend!
