Mala African Hair Braiding

I really thought long before I was going to write this review but the more I stare at the picture of the back of my head I felt this is necessary. I came to Malas braiding shop on Aug 25th 2025. First of all my overall experience was not that great. I called ahead and spoke with who i later found out was the owner, I wanted to confirm if they could do Knotless French curl braids. Without hesitation I was told yes, the only issue was she could not give me a price because I provided my own hair so I needed to come in person. She originally told me 200 - 220 over the phone but not confirmed. Once I arrived the price was confirmed at $260. I came here because they were close and reviews were nice. I was greeted promptly with a smile from I assume the owner. I was seated and waited about 45 minutes for them to get started on my hair. I like that they ask questions to make sure you are getting what you want. My complaints are my braids are not the same size in the front and back and the second braider that came to do the back braided wayy too hard for knotless braids. Overall I would consider going back but would make sure I take a look at the back to ensure the sizing isn’t off. They don’t show you any part of your hair until the end and you aren’t facing a mirror. I would also request only one braider, it’s overstimulating to have more than one person in my head and I think that played a part in why my braids are inconsisten

I went there for my first time today and these women did an excellent job! They are personable and very customer oriented. They were reasonable priced and moved fast.

This place was horrible. The stylist forgot we had an appointment. I had to wait. Then the entire 3+ hours she was on the phone and very unprofessional. She made me sit for over 39 minutes with conditioner in my hair while she ate and talked on the phone. She cut some of my real hair from my box braids take down. She was pulling my hair and causing me pain combing my hair out excessively rough for no reason. The shop was filthy and her supplies were dirty and old. Everything about the experience was terrible. Then she charged me way over what she quoted. DO NOT GO HERE!! And I've attached the pictures of her filthy disgusting bathroom.
