M K Hair Braiding

I've been going here for years. Basically for convenience and familiarity. They need to be more in touch with new hair styles and do neater and cleaner parts. They need to actually do knotless braids and not boxed knotless. They charge what other shops charge but you have to provide your own hair. The last couple of times I wanted 4 or 5 basic cornrows and they couldn't do it. I try to support local but I need variety.

I met MK and she was very nice although I have read quite a few reviews and they stated that she was rude. She accomodated my daughter after another shop didn't show up for an appt the day I called MK for a walk-in. Unfortunately, I didn't have the hair because I thought most braiding salons actually provided the hair. Anyways, I bought the hair that she recommended which was not good for the style. It was kinky hair for passion twists which requires a fine texture hair. She had her daughter to braid my daughter's hair which looked decent while she was braiding her hair but the hair was too thick and frizzy. I am sure her daughter put in her best efforts to complete the task BUT for $220, the braids last almost 4 wks. She could have clipped the hairs sticking out from the braids which look

MK: Has been in business for 20+ years, the salon is well respected in the city of hillside and loved by many loyal customers from the state of NJ. Since childhood I depended on MK to style me and I've never been disappointed. To any new customers in search for a traditional & well respected salon, please ignore the negative comments and develope your own love as many of us have. This salon is absolutely the best!!

I was referred to MK Braiding by two close friends who assured me of MK’s abilities. I’m always reluctant trying new hair stylists/braid salons and this was no different, but prepping for vacation I was desperate to get my hair braided. I asked my friend to call and schedule the appointment (worried if the owner heard a new voice it would be harder to get a last minute appointment). She said I could come on the day and time I requested. While I was happy I was also concerned she might be just taking all appointments and that meant I would be there all day and night waiting to get done as I was positive she was overbooking. This review is not for me, but I witnessed something while I was getting my hair branded there that didn't seat well with me. The owner had a client that had breakages, she refused to braid them, even though the client asked several time. Isn't the while point of having protective style is to help with breakages to salvage your hair? At one point the client herself was the one who braided her damage hair area. That's just ridiculous to me. If I was her I would have gotten up and leave. She was really rude to her too, anyway let me drink my water and mind my business 🤣 Another thing why don't the workers wear masks in this establishment? They spent the whole time talking on the phone over us clients without any masks. Aren't we in a pandemic?
