I had a fantastic morning at Factory 3. I am a beginner at working with wood and wanted a true beginners course. The teacher was clear, warm, funny, very knowledgeable and made things run smoothly. I left with a new cutting board that I made which I am happily and diligently oiling each day to keep that fresh cut ash fresh! I hope to sign up for future classes. Thank you for a great day!
Updated July 2025: Took another class with Margaret and Betsy for 2 days and dove even deeper into weaving and LOVED IT. All the instructors are so kind, patient and knowledgeable and this space is so great- whether you want to try something new or keep doing what you already love. Thanks, Factory 3! * photos are of me and some of other folks’ work as well- everyone made something really beautiful and well loved and we all had a blast! Original review below from May 2024: I took a really great weaving workshop with Margaret Russell and I loved it! It was 3 or 4 hours long but the time flew! I learned how to use a tabletop loom and walked away with a beautiful weaving that I am very proud of. Margaret is a very patient and skillful teacher. Highly recommend!
I had a blast at the Sewing 1 class, held at Factory 3. The instructor, Stacy, did a great job balancing the needs of the students, ensuring everyone had enough time to complete their projects. It was a great balance of learning new skills about the machines and also the fundamentals about sewing. I would highly recommend this class.
I took a handcut dovetails woodworking class at Factory 3 in October 2025. It was an excellent experience and I looked forward to stepping into the wood shop every week with the small group of students. The space is nice and I wish I lived close enough to make membership viable. The class format allowed for a lot of one-on-one time with the instructor to tune and troubleshoot our technique. I expected to come away from the class with a good idea of the basics, which I certainly did. What surprised me is that I also now feel confident to pursue my own projects using the skills I learned. As an enthusiastic novice woodworker, this was so valuable. I'll be keeping an eye on future class offerings and would recommend Factory 3 to anyone who loves to make things.
The Sewing 2 class was great. We covered just the right amount of material. The instructor was patient and good at explaining the seams we learned. And it was nice to meet new and interesting people. I would happily take another class at Factory 3.
