Art Of Africa Hair Braiding

I visited the shop and was disappointed by the environment. The owner's kids were behaving disruptively, running around, and even spitting and throwing water from the sink on customers. The braiders were drinking while working, and the shop was dirty. The service took 10 hours, and overall, I wouldn't recommend or return to this shop.

Here lies one of my $300 waist length “small” boho braids. The third one that I’ve had come out actually 😒 The quality of their work has declined so much from when they first started. I have slightly longer than shoulder length hair, and I am familiar with braid aftercare, braids should not just slide out. Also the little boy that they have there is loud. He screams and cries and they do not watch him at all. One time myself and another customer had to yell to stop him from grabbing the kettle of boiling water. This is by no means anywhere to go if you want to relax. Even with headphones in it is terrible.

I always ask for the same style and have been coming here for years because of how well it was done in the past. This time, though, the quality wasn’t the same. My hair was cut shorter than expected, the parts were uneven, and the sizing wasn’t what I asked for. It was disappointing, especially since I’ve consistently requested the same thing every visit.

UPDATE: So here I am 3 years later bringing my daughter in for braids. Box braids in the back/a single row of feeds in front with beads. Let me start by saying that it's beautiful work and they were all very nice. However, they told us to come at 10 a.m. and we left at 5 pm. It was a long day but my daughter loved her hair. 3 years ago- They were so kind. I walked in to get an idea of what I wanted and they took me right then. They were fast for the style I wanted and encouraged me to try something new. I'm definitely going back!

Braids usually turn out nice, but many times, some braiders will rush the back of the hair and make all of the braids different sizes. Prices fluctuate constantly. The workers often forget that there are many cultures that speak French or different languages regardless of the appearance of their ethnicity. The conversation that takes place in the shop should be carefully considered.
