Wallops Island - Launch Pad 0-A

Viewed the 8/1/23 Antares flight from the CT/RI border. Absolutely spectacular! Started as a contrail streaming across the southwest twilight sky like a jet that had departed from JFK for a flight to Europe. Obviously not a jet once you noticed the blazing speed that it moved. All of a sudden the contrail disappeared and there was no sight of its owner. Maybe 10 to 15 seconds passed until a brilliant orange plume the size of a full moon appeared, as the 2nd stage motor kicked in and streaked for perhaps another minute as the rocket faded up and far away. The payload hasn't reached its destination yet. But for the visual alone I'd call this latest launch a rousing success. Cooking hot dogs off the RD-181 gives them a great taste. Then a quick dip at the beach will cool you down. Great weekend trip.

Incredible Launch Pad! Wallops lets you get closer to their rockets than anywhere else in the USA! I've personally seen 3 Antares launches from here (NG-15, NG-16, and NG-17) and I plan to see all of them until the vehicle is retired! This pad should also host Neutron Launches (A vehicle being developed by Rocket Lab).
