Urban Nirvana Spa - Kiawah Island

I booked an hour massage for my birthday as I do every year. This was the spa I booked with because it was close to my hotel. It wasn't the luxury experience I'm used to in my years of massages all over the world. I'm usually met with at least a robe before the service then tea, water or something after. When I came in I was taken to the back and told "you can wait here and the bathroom is back there". They called me back for my service then tell me they'll give me my privacy to undress in the room. This took away from the time of my massage and I was confused as to why I wasn't given a robe to put on while I was waiting to be called back so I could go right the massage when called. Came to Urban Nirvana with some horrendous back pain and leg and glute tightness. Madeline gave me an incredible therapeutic tissue massage, tailored to my pain. Felt fabulous afterwards, haven't felt that way in ages. Thank you Madeline :)

I visited this store today with a friend while staying at Andell Inn and unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience. Despite there being three employees at the counter, (one had a purple streak in her hair, the other was younger with a ponytail) not one of them acknowledged us when we entered — no greeting, no eye contact, nothing. No other customers were in the store. We walked through the store prepared to make a purchase, but the lack of basic courtesy and acknowledgment made us feel invisible and unwelcome. As two minority women, it’s hard not to notice when this type of behavior seems selective. We chose to leave without buying anything. This was the ONLY store in Freshfields that didn’t acknowledge our presence.

I arrived 3-4minutes prior to my massage (because there is a hair salon with the same name a block down so it was confusing where to go). When I arrived a woman was chit-chatting with the only employee in the front area. I wasn't able to check in until after my scheduled massage time due to the chatting. Then was escorted back and a women came to greet me and bring me to the room. She said for a 30minute massage it would be targeted to a specific area (totally expected this). I told her to focus on my neck and shoulders. However during the massage she spent 50% of the time on my lower back and VERY little time on my neck or shoulders -- extremely disappointing. Honestly my mom could have provided me with a massage of equal quality for free. I was face down the entire time which is shocking

I had a 10:00 facial on my birthday scheduled in advance. Aesthetician did not arrive after I waited 50 minutes. They did not offer a discount or anything for a future visit. Would not recommend this place.
