I had the pleasure of working with Sam and she was wonderful! I’m very particular/ sensitive about my hair and she heard my ideas and then created a mood board for my appointment, so i could visually see everything. It was perfect! She heard every request and made my dream hair come true. She also did it in a way that I didn’t need constant upkeep (I personally am terrible about that). Very pleased and will be going back! My friend sees Eris and says amazing things about her work and it’s good to know I can see either stylist if one is booked.

Sam is the best hair stylist hands down in the DMV. Her experience , attention to detail , personalization and consideration Is second to none. She has an excellent personality and very engaging while giving you the best cut/hair styling at the same time. What a rare combination and keeps me coming back. Love the new location and relaxed vibe inside the salon. Location is easy to find/get to and parking has never been an issue. Sam always greets me with a smile and takes great care of me as well as dozens of my friends, neighbors and coworkers. She's the real deal and I look forward to being a longtime customers. I have been looking for perfect haircut in the DC area for almost 20 years, and I found it with Sam. She has an in-depth knowledge of hair including cutting, maintenance, and styling. She gave me styling tips for my hair that I had never had before and make it look great every day. She cuts hair so that you can go long stretches between haircuts without feeling like a shaggy beast. She is also just super fun to hang out with. Would absolutely recommend her for hair cuts.

Sam has been taking care of my curly locks since 2023. I’ve never felt so comfortable or confident in a stylist’s ability to make me feel welcome and cut and style my hair to perfection. I’m a pretty shy person, but Sam has me chattering away as soon as I walk through the door. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my curls. I also adore The Rare Bird’s new home as of this summer. Such a beautiful, thoughtful, and warm space. I wish I could just spend the day there hanging out! Their craft nights are also a hit. It’s so nice to meet other folks who adore Sam and The Rare Bird as much as I do. Thank you, Sam! edit to say that I drive from dc to see her! I would drive a million miles more!

Had my first appointment here with Eris and she did an excellent job! I went in hoping to understand how to style my waves a bit more and she did just that. She suggested a gloss to help tone the highlights in my hair, provided a great cut, and ideas to maybe consider for next time. The salon itself is adorable, and everyone is so incredibly kind.
