Shanty Creek Resort - Fitness Center

If you are not a hotel guest at Shanty Creek, you will not be treated with respect. I was personally told "People like you clog up places like our fitness center for our actual customers". During my most recent visit, I went during staffed hours and no one was there to let me in (I later discovered they were at lunch, lunch hours are not posted anywhere). The front desk told me there should be someone there (no mention of lunch hours) and refused further assistance when I told them that wasn't the case. Day passes are no longer offered, and the front desk would not help me with a monthly membership. Got banned after subscribing for 6 months, reason was for bringing my girlfriend in with me despite paying their $10 fee every time. They gave absolutely no warning either, just came in and stopped me while I was dressing. The place was dirty from the hot tub having slime on the sides, to the rats running around the gym. I only got a membership out of convenience so I ,couldn’t recommend it. Worst $170 odd dollars I’ve ever spent. In light of Shanty’s response I want to add that that their lack of staffing isn’t my fault because I paid their stupid fee every time someone was at the desk. So don’t go acting like I was going out of my way to avoid you because I went to that dump before I had to clock in to my 7pm job. It’s got a sauna and hot tub. So that’s nice! The gym equipment is about 60 years old. That’s why I’m giving 3 stars. Everything is unstable and feels like it’s going to break. The miroirs are broken and the ceiling is leaking water into a bucket. lol The staff is really nice. They don’t allow kids in there. They did let me have my kids 8-10 years old sit on the bench while I worked out. For that I give 4 stars! Why don’t all gyms have an area where parents can bring our kids and let them read books or have a safe room ? The showers and bathrooms are like a 1980s KOA campground. Not the nicest. Not bad either. Just below average to average. It’s $56 a month so that’s really expensive for such a low graded equipment.

I was treated very well by the staff. I’ve been going on and off for years. Did my physical therapy here after two hip replacements. The equipment is old but guess what it did the trick. And really is so hard to follow a couple rules.

Staff is friendly but it's not a fitness center. They have only 3 machines which are 25 years old and out of order. It is a joke.
