Shama Thai Massage

I've been going to massages for 15 years and I really wanted to like this place. New to the area so I thought I would try this boutique based on the reviews and location in downtown San Mateo. Unfortunately I had the worst 30-min Swedish massage in years. It's decorated and cozy and sets you in the right mood but the minute my therapist touched me, her hands were cold and the body rub was also cold. Like most massage places, you fill out the chart of the areas of focus which I did but she not only didn't concentrate on that, she did areas that I did not need or want (my sides, and underarm) which indicated she was trying for lymphatic drainage, which I did not ask for. HANDS down (get it?) the most relaxing and lovely massage I’ve had in a while. I didn’t sleep well last night and I just needed nice, long strokes tailored to my needs. Yes I did fall asleep in my massage, but woke up refreshed and ready to get on with the rest of the day. I had been meaning to try Shama Thai Massage for some time. So glad I did!

I live in the East Coast and fly to the West Coast for work 2-3 times per year. I always make sure to visit Shama Thai and receive magical healing massage from ZENON! He has phenomenal energy, he is always pleasant and calming and is magical! I wish I could put him in my pocket and take him back tot he East Coast! Looking forward to the next time! Namaste 🙏

I have been coming to Shama for over 4 years now, their massage always leaves me feeling healed and relaxed. The massage rooms are clean, dark and comfortable, actually very cozy and reminiscent of Thailand. Each masseuse who has worked with me has been very skilled and professional. Highly recommend this place, specially if you workout regularly and are tight in various muscles.

It’s been years since I’ve had Thai massage and chose Shama Thai based on Google reviews, with high recommendations for the establishment and for Rira, whom I requested. I did a 60 min deep tissue, but next time I will come for a longer appointment. If you’re like me and love that good good pain, you need to come to Shama. I almost don’t want to tell you that Rira was the best because I don’t want her to book up, but she’s incredible. I imagine that the other therapists are just as great! You will get a curtained off space, and for the most part all I heard was the slow music (if you’re noise sensitive, note that it’s not a private room so you may hear other movements) Shama is easily accessible off the main Ave, with a calm and welcoming environment, and kind, professional staff.
