Pigtails & Crewcuts: Haircuts for Kids - Montclair, NJ

Just got my son’s second haircut at Pigtails, and unfortunately this experience was the complete opposite of our first visit. The stylist finished his cut in about 15 minutes and it felt extremely rushed from start to finish. There was a strange sense of urgency the entire time, and the interaction itself wasn’t pleasant. The stylist was Stella, and I will personally never book with her again. The haircut came out uneven and nothing like what we asked for. At one point she offered to “fix it,” but by then she had already taken a huge portion off the side of his head with the clippers. There was really nothing left to fix at that point. We’ve had a great experience at Pigtails & Crewcuts. The entire concept of a salon designed specifically for kids is fantastic. The space is clean, bright, and very welcoming, and the atmosphere makes it much easier for children to feel comfortable during haircuts. The staff (ESPECIALLY LORENA) is friendly, patient, and clearly experienced in working with kids of all ages. They do a great job creating a positive environment so that even children who might normally be nervous about haircuts can relax and enjoy the experience. I wanna say this is one of the best kids hair salons in north jersey. I wanted my daughter to have beautiful braids for her birthday and the stylist Lorena understood the assignment. She was so gentle and kind and bilingual which helped alot! 100% recommend this place and Lorena and if your looking for different types of styles for your little girl! Perfect for a special event.

went today for a last minute cut i booked the night before feeling skeptical due to my son being on the spectrum. When my son sat down it was a little hectic but as soon as the cut was happening he did so much better then he did in the last place we got his haircut. Kerri was so great and patient. We were out in 10 minutes. Great and quick service. We will definitely be back! Love the haircut and the service!!!!

All of the 1 star reviews are about the same stylist Stella being impatient. I wish I knew this before I had booked. I came in today with my daughter to do a donation for Wigs for Kids. We had a 2:20 appt and arrived a few minutes early. It was not busy so she was immediately seated and I was asked to complete the Wigs for Kids donation form at the front desk. As I was doing that, the stylists started putting her hair in ponytails and I mentioned we wanted to wait until her aunt arrived as she was driving 35 minutes to be there for the experience. I continued filling out the form and my mom suddenly said “wait she wants to watch”. I looked over and my daughter’s ponytails had all been cut off!
