Today was my first time having my hair cut and styled by Wangui. She is a master stylist. She wanted to know my goals. She created a personalized cut for me and taught me how to care for it. She also told me exactly which products to use for my particular hair type, head shape, etc. Highly recommend her!

I went to Wangui for approximately 3 years. She was the only person who cut my hair during that time. Because of pandemic laziness, I wore my hair in protective styles for nearly 2 years and got regular cuts only from her. My hair was healthy. When I finally went to wear my hair out, I let her cut it again (on a dry, old twist out, unwashed, no blow drying first as per her usual.) I expected to have long hair with a cut that complemented my face. Unfortunately, I had short uneven hair that looked awful in the back. Another hair stylist described it as a “hole” in the back. I cried for a month and never went back. It’s been more than 6 months since that last haircut and since I’m now perimenopausal, my hair growth has slowed and I have not recovered much of my loss. Over a year ago I received an amazing cut from this stylist and after she left her previous salon I spent months looking to see where she moved. I have even suggested her to many of my curly haired friends. After finally finding her,I booked a same day appointment and took off of work early to make sure I arrived on time. About an hour prior to the appointment I received a text confirmation and 30 minutes before the appointment time (after I arrived to the location) she texted me cancelling the appointment. I received no apology for the inconveniences this caused especially after my hour long travel time, and have yet to receive any correspondence after her initial cancellation. This was extremely dissapointing.

I’ve been going to Wangui for years. She’s literally the best curly hair stylist / cutter / magic maker in the DC area. Formerly at Fiddleheads salon, she branched out on her own. The location is a bit hard to find: it’s at the Phenix Suites (home of a bunch of independent businesses) within the Ellsworth Place mall, next to the TJ Maxx. So if you look for the address and you walk into a mall, you’re at the right place!

Love Wangui. I’ve been going to her for years and now at her new location. I’ve also referred many friends. Great!
