Finding a barber for an autistic child isn’t about finding someone who is good with clippers; it’s about finding someone who is good within there souls. Since my son was a year old, haircuts have been a source of pure anxiety. We’ve been through the ringer—shops where my husband had to physically hold our son while I watched, heart-broken, just trying to get through it. I am a self-proclaimed 'Mama Bear' in the highest sense. When it comes to my son, I am staring down a barber hunting for any flicker of frustration or any shift in energy that might overwhelm him.
