Customer Reviews
I brought my son in for a haircut. He has healthy, wavy hair, and just needed a clean up on the sides and back, and about 1” off the top. I was clear with what I asked for. The shop was very dirty, with hair and grime on all surfaces. Lots of rust in the sinks, broken table surfaces, and very shabby/old ripped chairs and neck rests. No music, no talking (except about other clients they don’t like), and no decor of any kind. All of this would have been forgiven if the haircut had been even close to what I asked for, or if any of the stylists were even a little bit friendly. Instead, they butchered my son’s hair, and gave me (a white woman) the silent treatment and lots of rude stares. I won’t be back, and will spread the word to avoid this place at all costs.
Kahala Barber Shop, tucked away in the back of the mall behind Queen’s Medical Center, is a true hidden gem. The shop has a simple, vintage feel—nothing fancy, no frills—just an old-school barbershop where you get in, get a great cut, and get back to life. Nina has been cutting my hair lately, and she does an excellent job with precision and efficiency. If you’re looking for a classic, no-nonsense haircut that reminds you of the good old days, this is the place to go!
Over yr ago, it changed ownership. Barbers/cutters have left. Appears that person who I got the best cut from has left. How completely they cut & style your hair varies. Given same instructions to each, you can get different results. Took my son in and they claimed his hair was long and charged $5 more. His hair was not shoulder length...it was longish. However, they have their regulars and it can get busy at certain times. But I found that your cut can be hit or miss...if you have difficult hair to cut perhaps
This is the oldest business in the shopping center. The owner is a sweet older woman who took over from her mother before her. Great haircut!
I have been getting my hair cut at Kahala Barber since 2015. Nina, the hair stylist that I always see, knows how I like my hair cut and consistently does an excellent job. I like the hair stylists at Kahala Barber since they are able to do “custom” haircuts at a very reasonable price. Those national chain, franchise-type hair salons can only do basic haircuts in my opinion. I usually get a “high-fade” haircut which is not a basic cut. Nina and the other hair stylists at Kahala Barber are very skilled and can give you the haircut that you desire. Once I find a great place like this, I’ll never go anywhere else!
