Jake's Place, Home of Ghent Barbers

A very nice barber shop with great staff and products for sale. You can sample some products after the cut the stylist will help apply. They offer shampoos after as well. There is a spa side to the business. Another nice perk they offer beer, wine or hot coffee/tea while you wait to be seen.

I have been coming to Jake’s Place for years. I was a customer while still in college at ODU when it was a small operation on 21st. Now, living out of the area, I only come when I’m back home for a visit with the fam. I have noticed the last few years the lack of attention and professionalism. The employees are mediocre at best. The space is uninteresting and does not give the feeling of a man’s spa. Today, I went for a manicure and pedicure. Aside from the fact that I had an appointment which wasn’t respected by the establishment, I’m sitting in the room where they do the manicures and pedicures and I see a dirt dustpan, a broom, cleaning supplies on top of the furniture. It clearly took away from the idea of a spa. Who wants to see a dustpan filled with dirt and God-knows-what. The oth

What a disappointment! Scheduled a scissor cut nothing fancy. Total incompetence! Haircut is uneven and a result of poor skill and carelessness. Never ever going back nor can I recommend.

I have no idea how all these local barbershops have such good reviews. I've never had such mediocre experiences in any major city I've lived in. It is never a good sign when you ask for a specific length haircut and they specifically ignore your instructions without asking or looking to better understand your intentions. Maybe if you want a super basic buzz they can hook you right up but I wouldn't know.

First barber shop I’ve been to in the area and did not disappoint! Staff was professional, courteous, and prompt. Ciera did an amazing job!
