Gene's Barber Shop

I was in need of a new barber so I went online and started searching around and reading reviews. I remembered Gene's being downtown and since my grandfather ran a barber shop with the same name for 30 years, I felt compelled to give them a shot. I booked my appointment online using Booksy and it was easy. Only needed to give my phone number and email address. Gene's is a modern interpretation of what a barber shop used to be. The walls are covered with sports knick knacks. There is plenty of seats and magazines for customers who are waiting. There was sports playing on the TV. The whole place was clean and inviting. Kate was my "barber" and she was excellent! I had forgotten to confirm my appointment on Booksy but when I showed up without an appointment she was happy to welcome me. She did an excellent job; definitely better than what you'd think you'd get for the price. I have problems specifying how I want my cuts. I told her what I wanted in general and she knew exactly what I wanted and how to do it. I'll definitely be going back. Additionally, she's very pleasant. Great job!

I recently had the worst hair cut of my life at this place. Hands down the worst. I feel disgraced with how bad the hair cut turned out. For the record, I was late. I know how long it takes to get from my home to Lee's Summit, but ran a few minutes late to begin with, which wasn't helped by slow traffic on 350 due to the construction. That said, Brett, the barber, had two options when he realized I was late: Tell me it'd be best for me to reschedule because he couldn't fit me in before his next appointment. Or accept providing the service I scheduled and give a proper hair cut. He chose somewhere between, I guess. He chose to take me in and do a rush job on my hair. For a few years now, Brett has been the barber for my son and me. . He gives us consistently good haircuts every time. He is sure master of his craft. He’s also a good conversationalist and is able to get my teenage son talking comfortably.

Came in with my boyfriend to get his hair cut, Thomas did an amazing job with his hair and beard. First time he has went to someone and they made it look exactly how he wanted. Great conversation and great people!
