I initially wrote a very positive review for this stylist and her business because, overall, my experience at the salon was pleasant. However, despite that, I had a significant issue that became apparent immediately after my service.After my hair was dry and the perm rods were removed, I instinctively pulled my hair down and immediately noticed that it was much shorter than before. When I stood up after she applied the chemical treatment, my hair reached my chest. But once everything was finished, it only reached my shoulders. At first, I questioned myself, thinking, "Maybe I’m overreacting." But deep down, I knew something wasn’t right. To clarify, I casually asked, "Did my hair need a trim?" She replied, "Yes." When I called to inquire about getting a Jerry curl, Mrs. V was incredibly friendly and had a calm, cool vibe that immediately put me at ease. She patiently answered all my questions and was completely transparent about the process. I shared with her my past experience with a Gina curl three years ago, which left my hair brittle and difficult to manage. I also mentioned how the roots weren’t treated, leading to two very different textures in my hair that eventually matted. I told her I was nervous about trying a Jerry curl, but she took the time to explain the entire process and assured me it would be a better experience. If I could give this salon 10 stars I would! I have been seeing Mrs. V for several years now and she is the ONLY PERSON I trust to do my hair. She is professional, clean, honest, and treats you like family from the moment you walk into her salon. Since the pandemic, she has made it a priority to keep everyone safe so she requires masks, performs temperature checks upon arrival , provides hand sanitizer, and spaces everyone throughout the salon to ensure safety which I truly appreciate. It feels like a family reunion every time I enter into her salon because even though there's people there I never met before, Mrs. V makes everyone feel welcome. This review is long overdue! I can't praise Ms. V and her staff enough. The salon feel for Dawns of Essence is warm, friendly, and inviting. Several months ago, I called Ms. V to bring in my daughter for a virgin relaxer, she was very sweet. When we got there, she made my daughter feel comfortable about her choice to relax her natural hair, helped her choose a cute pixie style, and had my teenager (we know they're hard to please) feeling lovely and confident when she left. Ms. V. was even able to squeeze me in (I'm natural too) for a wash and trim while I was sitting there, and although her shop was full, we were out of there in no time.
