This was my first time at this salon, I can't speak for others, but I wouldn't recommend Annie. First, during the consultation, she doesn't listen to what the client wants to do,she pushes what she wants to do. I was trying to explain to her that I booked a touch-up highlight for full head and asked for about the same amount as last time. But,before I could finish speaking, she interrupted with "Yeah, yeah, yeah,I know that " and clearly wasn't listening. Starting like that made me really uncomfortable, but canceling over something like that seemed not nice,I trusted her and let her do it. But,she just doesn't understand how strong bleach is. For a highlight touch-up under the same conditions elsewhere, it always finished in about 3 h30min, but she took over 4 h30 min. Before was with hair
I’ve been here 3 times; the first time for a blowout, the second for a cut, and the third for a color, cut, and blowout. Each time I was with Annie and each time I left impressed and very happy with the results. Annie is a professional and talented stylist. The first few times I came in because I was in a pinch and needed to find a salon quickly but after yesterday’s visit I think this will be my permanent salon. I was in and out in 2 hours for a color, face framing highlights, cut, and blowout. I don’t think I’ve ever been out of a salon so quickly. It was amazing and I love the results. Highly recommend!
Aki has been maintaining my hair like a bonsai tree for at least 20 years. I’ve only seen another person once, while traveling, and regretted it. She’s the best. The salon has survived in NYC for that long, which speaks volumes. Great value. Great heart. Communes of the truly treats you like family.
I usually like this place but today I got a stylist I’ve never had before. I said 1.5 inches off my bob. But she kept trying to even out by going shorter and shorter. And blaming my cowlick for having to keep going. She said she had to cut above where the hair curls out. Did she consult me? No. If I didn’t have a problem with my cowlick why is she making it a big deal? I said 1.5 inches. And then she tried to tell me that this is “a style”. Well I didn’t ask for this style, did I?I left feeling super disappointed and ugly.
I’ve been coming to Commune for a few years because of the great ambiance and amazing service! I’ve had my hair cut and dyed by Annie who is super professional, friendly, and skilled. This is my absolute favorite salon, I highly recommend—especially for those with Asian hair. The pricing is great for the quality of the service provided. I also love coming here for their sencha and matcha lattes at the cafe!
