Carbon County Parking

FRAUD - make sure to take pictures!! I am originally from Carbon County (Palmerton) but now live in Switzerland. I had to attend court in Jim Thorpe in February 2026. I obviously had a rental car (NY plates) and I parked in the lot by the train. Since I now have a foreign phone number the usual pay by texting a phone number (to pay for parking) did not work so I Proceeded to try to pay on the web (successfully), but the time difference in between me tying to pay , getting a ticket and then successfully paying was 3 minuets- ok so fine with it was 3 minutes so I paid the $9 daily fee but also got charged then$50 not paying (in time) fee. So at this point l’ve paid $59 for parking. But the WORST part was when I parked I made sure to park nowhere near the green cones marked “ county

Another review compared this place to parking in NYC. I'd argue it's much worse, for the following reasons: ▪️ You can find parking in midtown Manhattan for $20/day. Here I paid $25 ▪️ Most parking garages have hourly options, this one is only daily ▪️NYC parking is a competitive industry, this is the only real option in Jim Thorpe ▪️NYC is loaded with public transit options, driving is most people's only option here If you're visiting Jim Thorpe, which was delightful, please find another way in without parking, it'll really put a damper on your day.

There are a lot of spaces. Heavy traffic flow with the busses dropping off guests for white water rafting. There was a lot of traffic stalled waiting to leave as the bus hadn't left yet. There are plenty of kiosks to pay for parking. $25 for a while day is a great rate as there is so much in the town to do.

Be sure to check the signage. We were fined $60 after paying because we missed the single sign at the entrance to park beyond the green cones. Many other cars also made the same mistake.

I'm a resident of Carbon County who is 100% flabbergasted by the monopoly this county charges for parking in Jim Thorpe. Arrived with my family at 2pm to go for a ride on the Reading and Northern Railroad and was charged $25 to park. After 6pm is free! That equates to $6.25/hr! What is this, New York City? You all used to charge $5 - $6 for the entire day. Total scam. Would love to know where the money is going. Certainly not into roads or infrastructure. My humble town of Lehighton has a pothole every 2 feet! Simply disgusted and wishing to share my feelings on the situation. You know we need somewhere to parkwhile visiting town and have allowed greed get the better of you.
