As a Latina in Pittsburgh community is super important to me. I went to Ascend looking to try something new and ended up finding so much more than just a climbing gym. From my first climb to their yoga classes and strength training sessions, every experience has helped me reconnect with movement, healing, and confidence in my body. The community and staff are so welcoming — they make it easy to step out of your comfort zone and have fun doing it. Whether you’re completely new to climbing or just looking for a space to grow, Ascend offers the perfect balance of challenge, support, and good energy. I always leave feeling stronger — physically and mentally. Highly recommend it to anyone ready to try something new! 🧗‍♀️✨

This gym has so much to offer! If you like to climb then there is plenty for you to do and even a ton of classes offered to help improve skill. If you like to have variety, ascend can also provide that for you! They have plenty of cardio equipment and weightlifting as well as numerous yoga and fitness classes. There really is something for everyone. The environment is always welcoming and staff are happy to see you. I would recommend this gym to all of my friends.

We had a great time! I took my 4 kids ages 8-15 years old. The staff were incredible and walked us through everything we needed to know (which was necessary!) We didn't even feel the need to do anything with the harness because we enjoyed bouldering so much! PERSONAL PARENT TAKE AWAY... There is no kids area (that I saw). It is set up as an open gym with climbers of all experiences there at once. Because of all the safety rules that the staff review on arrival, my PERSONAL opinion is that this would be a difficult place to bring anyone under the age of 5. It is definitely geared towards 8-10+ I would say. Again, personal option based on the safety aspects that were explained, and just the difficulty levels of the courses. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had my first-ever rock climbing experience at Ascend Rock Climbing Gym, and it was absolutely amazing! From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel welcomed and comfortable. They were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain everything in detail, which really put me at ease as a beginner. The gym is impressively spacious with plenty of storage for personal items. I loved that they offer more than just climbing—there’s a full gym area with weights and cardio equipment, as well as group fitness classes, making it a great spot for cross-training. The variety of climbing walls is fantastic! Whether you’re a complete beginner like me or an experienced climber, they have routes for every skill level, allowing you to challenge yourself at your own pace. O

I went for the first time with my two elementary school aged kids (10, 8) and we had a great time. The kids had so much fun they didn’t want to leave. The rental shoe fee was waived since it was our first time. There is an area where you need a harness for an added small charge and we opted for that. Most of the other climbing areas you can do without harnesses. You can climb for as long as you want. We switched back and forth between the area needing the harnesses and without. We received a quick tour of the facilities and demo on how to determine the level of difficulty of the climb, how to get off/fall correctly and use the harness equipment.
