DIAMOND in the Rough We all know that as a female, it can sometimes be hard to find a female-friendly Barber Shops, especially when it mostly male owned. I have been to plenty and let me tell you, Against Da Grain is Top Notch and this Female Approves. Let me set the stage for you by saying, 1st you walk into a Sleek Shop with lights and Mirrors galore (lighting had all my angles looking right). Easy-going vibe, flat screens (3 to be exact) on a station that will catch your attention and keep it there while you wait, and Friendly Barbers that engage you from the moment you hit the door (Let the Church Say Yeah). Good people, good business, some issues. This shop requires you to book online for what barber is available at the time you have selected. (They are typically kind to new faces that don't know this and will cut their hair if they just walk in anyway.) Over all very friendly people and typically very good hair cuts. What draws me away now and has me looking for other places... inconsistency and pricing. I've definitely gotten a better cut for cheaper. I have had one to many times where I have booked online, shown up and waited well past (sometimes an hour and a half) past my booked time. This was due to a combination of what seems like a faulty website and no one tracking what was showing on the website. And neither time was I offered any compensation (discount). Excellent, old-school black barbershop (but with Asians, Latinos and Whites all waiting for cuts!)...complete with a "Swear Jar" for anyone caught cursing aloud! See Tina and get a great, affordable cut and friendly conversation.
